Sarah Rose Belok graduated from Maharishi University of Management in 2011 with a BA in elementary education and an Outstanding Student Award. She is currently teaching first and second grade boys at Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment.

Sarah Rose grew up practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique and had always known about MUM. Before coming to Fairfield, she studied Near-Eastern Judaic studies and women’s gender studies at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. When she arrived at MUM in 2009, she realized her calling was education.

While at MUM, Sarah Rose spent a summer teaching English as a second language in Dnipropetrovs’k, Ukraine, and completed her student teaching at Maharishi School.

“Maharishi School is such a nurturing and life-supporting place for me, and the kids are such bliss balls,” said Sarah Rose. “I absolutely love working with them. When I am teaching them, I feel expansion in my heart. I love incorporating Maharishi’s principles of ideal teaching; I love focusing on positive qualities in each child.”

Sarah Rose likes to integrate projects in her classroom that include exploring nature, interviewing people, and journal writing. She finds it important to build a supportive classroom climate where children feel comfortable expressing themselves creatively through the different subjects. Sarah Rose is excited about using technology and hopes to introduce iPads in her classroom to take advantage of the variety of educational tools these devices offer.

Sarah Rose enjoyed her time at MUM and received a lot of support for pursuing her dream. “My professors in the education department were particularly inspiring,” she said. “They were flexible with our learning styles and allowed us to chose a more challenging path if we wanted to. I really appreciated that.”

Sarah Rose plans to get her master’s degree in administrative education in order to affect the quality of education on a larger scale.
